Play and Learn with the Algae Foundation

Learning algae science has never been this fun! Through educational video games, board games, and role-playing games, we invite learners of all ages into interactive, immersive experiences that make complex scientific ideas accessible and hands-on. Players tackle real problems, sharpen their critical thinking, and spark their curiosity about the challenges science is working to solve. By blending play with education, we inspire creative approaches to learning and bring algae into classrooms, informal learning spaces, and homes everywhere.

Phycoverse

Tabletop Board Game

In Phycoverse, you and your fellow players become Phyconeers, pioneers racing to show the world what algae can really do. Together you’ll discover and cultivate algae, then put it to work on innovation Missions, from seaweed snacks and living batteries to zero-carbon concrete and algae-based fashion. Every Mission is based on a real invention.

But the clock is ticking. A toxic algae bloom is spreading across the board, and if the Bloom Doom reaches the end of its track, public opinion turns against algae for good. Setbacks will block your cultivation, bloom cards will push disaster closer, and a lucky Windfall might just save your strategy. Win or lose, you do it as a team.

Whether you’re a board game fan, a teacher, a student, or just algae-curious, Phycoverse is a game night where you’ll talk, strategize, and walk away knowing a little more about the tiny organisms making a big impact on our world.

Gather your team. Grow your algae. Beat the Bloom.

Algae Alibi

Role-playing Game

Algae Alibi is a free, ready-to-play role-playing game that turns your classroom into a high-stakes science convention. Students become young scientists competing in the prestigious Algae Imagination Challenge, racing to show off breakthrough algae strains. But when they arrive to find their carefully cultivated samples tampered with, it’s up to them to investigate, follow the evidence, and uncover who (or what) is behind it.

Along the way, students will use imaginary microscopes, pH meters, and spectroscopes, and learn algae cultivation strategies, all while reading clues, weighing rumors against facts, and making bold decisions as a team. They’ll roll dice, improvise, and put their scientific thinking to the test in a showdown they won’t forget.

Designed for grades 6-8 and easily adapted for younger or older learners, Algae Alibi is just as fun for a game night with friends as it is for a science class.
