Summer Algae Science Institute

The Summer Algae Science Institute, SASI for short, is a hands-on professional development experience designed for educators new to the Algae Academy. It gives teachers a strong start and the confidence they need before bringing the curriculum into their own classrooms.

Led by an experienced Algae Academy alumni educator, SASI walks participants through the full 5-day curriculum—including the live algae lab—so you experience it exactly as your students will.

What you’ll do during SASI:

• Experience the full Algae Academy curriculum as a learner
• Work hands-on with live algae and lab materials
• Practice classroom-ready labs and activities
• Collaborate with other educators (in-person cohort experience)
• Receive and use a complete “mini-kit” for virtual training

Training formats:

• In-person SASI: Work side-by-side with educators using full lab setups and live algae
• Virtual SASI: Receive a complete Algae Academy mini-kit shipped to you for at-home lab participation

By the end of SASI, you’ll leave confident, prepared, and excited to bring Algae Academy into your classroom!
